GMAT Critical Reasoning Practice | Weaken the Argument Question #gmatverbal #gmatcr
In this video, we breakdown yesterday's CR Practice question. This detailed explanatory answer discusses GMAT Weaken the Argument Critical Reasoning practice question.
Question:
A recent study published in a leading medical journal claimed that consuming moderate amounts of chocolate daily can reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. The study followed 1,000 participants over a period of 5 years and found that those who consumed between 10 and 30 grams of chocolate daily had a 30% lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes compared to those who consumed no chocolate or did so very rarely. The researchers concluded that the flavonoids present in chocolate may help improve insulin sensitivity and glucose metabolism, thereby lowering the risk of diabetes.
To question the credibility of the conclusion, it would be most helpful to establish that
A. the participants who consumed no chocolate had a healthier lifestyle at the beginning of the 5-year period than those who consumed chocolates very rarely or daily.
B. the flavonoids found in chocolate are also present in other foods that were not considered in the study.
C. the study was funded by a major chocolate manufacturer, potentially introducing bias into the research.
D. the participants who consumed moderate amounts of chocolate daily were more likely to engage in regular physical activity, which also boosts glucose metabolism, than those who consumed no chocolate.
E. the participants of the study were required to self-report the amount of chocolate that they consumed daily.

In option B, you said that other foods could also be responsible for lower risk but doesnt matter because chocolate is contributing. So in D, physical activity is contributing to lower risk. But that does not necessarily say chocolates are not contributing to lower risk
I can't see the detail of the question deu to its screen quality
and d they told possibly they ae doing physical activity not sure that they are doing so how d?
why not c?

I do not want to live in US long term what are the top schools for MBA that have global presence? Thanks
Thank you For the session Sir
thanks sir
Great video but try putting the graphs and questions on the same slide , it’s very inconvenient to look at the questions and then come back to see the graph
We tried but there is too much data to fit into one slide in a reasonable font size. When we discuss practice questions, a community post will be made the previous day with the graph and questions all visible together so that you can solve and then check out the explanations. :)
Does address on passport also matters? Or the old address on passport can also work ?
From the official GMAT website on ID requirements, (www.mba.com/exams/gmat-exam/register/id-requirements) it states that the following is required Your ID must be current, legible, and include: Your name using the Roman alphabet, shown exactly as you provided when you registered, including the order and placement of your name(s) Date of birth that matches exactly the date provided when you registered A recent, recognizable photograph Your signature An address does not have to match
Beautiful explanation! <3
Thank you! Glad it helped your prep
Could you also do the same for one year MBA Programs at other IIMs and also for ISB
As the details become available and schools announce application deadlines, yes more such videos will be made. Subscribe and stay on the lookout! :)
Thank you for this fabulous content. Is 'A' the correct answer for the bonus question, assuming that 0 is not considered a positive number?
1/4
Great to know , i am just completing 4 years on 27 march 2025.
I solved it through options, is it the right way to solve it quicker?
I just have one doubt. Why did we took 1 as total work done?
You are awesome, thank you. I was struggling with this, I paid 2K USD to understand for private classes as well but my score did not improve. I bumped into this free tutorial and my whole idea and way of thinking changed and I could solve to get 160 in EA.
That is great. Congrats on your EA score!
Just amazing... much thanks

Hi, In the first question, there is a possibility that the person might have covered some distance after the first 2 hrs and then ended with the last 3 hrs to cover at 80 mph? As the question clearly mentions last 3 hrs (instead of next 3 hrs), there might be a possibility of distance coverage in between of 2 hrs and the last 3 hrs.
E. 72 mph
I solved this question in a different way and got the same answer. I took LCD of 3 and 5, because both $3 and $5 certificates need to be there in all the different combinations. I divided 93 by the LCD of 3 and 5 ,i.e., by 15. The quotient is 6, which is the answer. Was my approach right?
Ans: C
Spot on. The answer for the bonus question is 2 hours. Choice C
The key to solving this question is understanding that the father will always be 24 year older than the son, 3 years back, now or 3 years from now.
I solved the question using alligation and came to the same answer. Please let me know whether my answer was correct by fluke or I can use solve these questions using alligation method. I am little shaky in forming equations, but comfy in alligation.
The rule of alligation is probably the fastest way to answer this question. Good that you are more comfortable with this method than the regular equation framing method - because quite a few test takers struggle with setting up alligation - and you are in the advantaged minority who find it easy to go the alligation route.
@@Wizako Thank you so much for the quick response ! Thank you for the video also !
Is it true the Gmat fe is now section adaptive? That the next section will start with a difficult question if the previous section went well.
The GMAT FE is question wise adaptive. The difficulty of the first question of a subsequent section is thought to be based on the LOD that you ended the previous section. However, it is also said to adapt from that point forward to how you answered the first question. So, the impact on your final performance of the second or third section should be minimal.
It this gmat level ??
Yes absolutely! Most of these questions are representative of medium or medium-high level questions in the GMAT.
Is really gmat level que ????
Absolutely! Most of our questions are medium or medium-high questions in the GMAT, in terms of difficulty.
I am in love with this man
We think he is awesome too! :)
Am I the only one that finds these problems very difficult?
These are difficult questions per se. You tend to get one or two such questions out of the total 21 questions if you score well in the GMAT, say Q88 and upward. Please use these questions to understand the framework and use the building blocks to help you navigate through those one or two tough nuts in the GMAT.
Hi, the link is not working. Could you share it once again? Thanks in advance
Hey! The link is wzko.in/CR-starter
Hi Shwetha, thank you for the amazing explanation, even I fell in the trap of option E, later undertood why thats not right! Thank you so much!
Glad it was helpful! Good luck with your prep!
I think for the bonus question, the answer is D @Wizako could you please confirm
Yes it is. Both are sufficient.
Are we allowed to use a calculator in the GMAT
You are allowed a calculator ONLY in the Data Insights section. Not in the Quant section.
Answer is D
Statement 1 is not sufficient. Choice B is the correct answer
@@Wizakofor the bonus question? How?
@indrajitsaha253 - you are right. For the bonus question the correct answer is Choice D. The earlier reply referred to the original question in the video.
sir why is the answer not 32? Integral divisors also include negative integers.. for every positive factor there would be its equivalent negative integer as a factor.. therefore total number of integral divisors = 16x2 = 32 Please explain
You are right. The question should have explicitly stated positive integral factors. We will correct and reshoot another video.
